What Is Mucoid Plaque? Does It Really Exist?
Is Mucoid Plaque Real?
How Do I Remove "Mucoid Plaque"?
Mucoid plaque, meaning a film of mucus lining portions of the gastrointestinal tract, is a pseudoscientific (non-medical) term coined by naturopath Richard Anderson, ND, NMD.
Drawing from Anderson's writings, some health practitioners believe that mucoid plaque is a combination of food residue and an unhealthful mucus-like substance that can coat the colon, supposedly created by the body to protect itself from toxic compounds such as certain drugs (especially aspirin and alcohol), table salt, heavy metals, specific microbes, and other acidic byproducts produced by incomplete digestion and absorption of carbohydrates.
These practitioners often state that unhealthy mucoid plaque is to be distinguished from the normal, healthy intestinal mucosa.
Although most mainstream medical professionals do not recognize the concept of mucoid plaque, and it is properly identified as a pseudoscientific term, many in the alternative health community consider mucoid plaque to be a distinct accumulated substance which brings harm to the body, including inhibiting proper digestion.
Many healers argue that if you have "mucoid plaque" or "mucoid plaque ropes" in your bowels, your body cannot function properly, and optimal healing cannot occur. These practitioners may offer mucoid plaque cleanse programs based on this belief.
Is Mucoid Plaque Real?
No, I do not believe there is medical evidence to support the existence of so-called mucoid plaque that may develop in "ropes" or otherwise along the walls of the intestinal tract.
However, my many years of clinical experience treating patients as a colon hydrotherapist have demonstrated to me with absolute clarity that efficiently cleaning toxins out of your body via colon cleansing, when the body's defenses cannot keep pace with toxic burdens on their own, is an important and beneficial practice to undertake for your health.
Outlining a fasting and colonics protocol based on the recommended Vit-Ra-Tox Colon Cleanse Kit in my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health, I state:
"You will see some unusual excrement coming from your body. This is no cause for concern. These "ropes" ... are a mixture of the psyllium fiber and bentonite clay from the Vit-Ra-Tox Kit used during the deep tissue cleanse. They are loaded with the many toxins that are being cleared from the body. I do not think that these ropes actually line the walls of the colon, but rather are formed as the toxins, bacterial waste, bile, fiber, and clay combine while moving through the colon."
In other words, I believe that the "ropes" which some health practitioners identify as "mucoid plaque ropes" during a colonic session are simply the result of the kit products consumed, including psyllium fiber and bentonite clay, which help to pull out toxins from the colon.
How Do I Eliminate "Mucoid Plaque"? Does Colon Hydrotherapy Remove "Mucoid Plaque"?
Below are three methods which I recommend to effectively remove toxins and other unhealthy residual matter from the lining of the colon (which some followers of Anderson's writings may controversially label "mucoid plaque removal").
Each of these methods may work well on its own, but to gain the most benefit, you might consider working through the entire 35-day program laid out in Ten Days to Optimal Health and taking therapeutic essential oils specific to your individual needs.
If money or time are issues, start with one or two essential oils or blends. Basic questions are welcome any time via phone or email. For individualized support, consider setting up a personal health consultation with me.
▶ THERAPEUTIC ESSENTIAL OILS
Over 5000 years ago, the foundation of holistic Chinese medicine established the pairing of certain organs because of the close relationship of their function and pathology.
For example, the lungs and large intestine (colon) are paired because of their relationship to the immune system, mucus production, and release of toxins. Both of these organs require a healthy mucosal barrier to function properly.
Chinese herbal medicine uses a particular family of herbs to destroy pathogenic mucus, called phlegm, in both the lungs and the colon. Then nourishing herbs are used to regenerate healthy fluids in the body.
Since therapeutic-grade essential oils are significantly stronger than herbs, their ability to cleanse the body of harmful toxins is more effective.
I recommend the following essential oil blends known to help eliminate harmful substances from the body:
- Breathe Ease Essential Oil Blend is formulated to help loosen and expel mucus from both the lungs and GI tract and may reduce inflammation. It helps to calm the nerves and reduce cramping and stiffness. It is also a stimulant to the thymus and an immune booster.
- Deep Breathe Essential Oil Blend likewise helps the body to remove unwanted mucus. It is the oil blend of choice to remove mucus if you have a tendency toward digestive difficulties or excess mucus production.
- OHN Mucoid Plaque Essential Oil Blend is formulated to support colonic tissue and the mucosal barrier and helps to optimize gut immunity. It helps to remove toxins and other unwanted residual substances from the lining of the colon which may be referred to by some practitioners as "mucoid plaque" (a pseudoscientific term). This is also the oil blend of choice to use if you have a tendency toward chronic inflammation or viral infections, or have had Lyme disease.
Recommended usages of these oil blends:
Any one of these usages can be an effective starting place for supporting your gut health during periods of health challenges.
Work through the 35-day program laid out in Ten Days to Optimal Health. During the last 5 days, you will be guided to fast, using the Vit-Ra-Tox Colon Cleanse Kit and taking an enema series every day.
▶ COLON CLEANSE
Do a seven-day cleanse using the Vit-Ra-Tox Colon Cleanse Kit and a daily enema series for these seven days.
