What is your recommended enema series?

Our recommended enema series consists of three enemas, often followed by a suppository.

The first enema is a healthy soap solution and filtered water. The second enema is 1 teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt and 3-4 drops of OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend per quart of water. With these first two enemas, take as much enema solution into the bowel as the colon will hold. Empty onto toilet after each complete fill. These enemas are taken consecutively, with no time between them.

Then, immediately after comes the third enema, which is the coffee enema. Hold this enema solution for 12-15 minutes.

This enema series can be followed up with an enema implant or a suppository using a blend of essential oils.

LEARN MORE ABOUT THE ENEMA SERIES

Do enemas help to strengthen peristalsis in the colon? Does that help a person to become more regular?

Yes, enemas strengthen peristalsis. Why a person typically fails to have a bowel movement the day after taking an enema is likely due to what is called transit time, or the time it takes your body to complete the entire process of digestion and elimination. Improving peristalsis is just one factor in transit time.

For the first enema, how much soap do I use per quart of water? Do I need to use both the coconut oil soap and the goat milk soap?

You only need to use one kind of soap in the first enema in the series. How much soap you use depends on the sensitivity and the size of the individual and how often you take enemas. Usually 1 teaspoon to 1 tablespoon of coconut oil soap is plenty. When using the made-for-enema goat milk soap, drop the bar of soap into a bowl of water or directly into the enema bag. Let the bar sit for one to two minutes. Some people will only need to soak the bar 20-30 seconds. More is not always better. To learn more about how to use the goat milk soap, view our video, Using Enema Soap.

What does the Frankincense and Myrrh Soap do that benefits the prostate?

The oils improve overall prostate health, reduce BPH swelling, ease pain, and optimize urinary function.

In the March 2010 issue of Molecular Pharmacology, Dr. Aydee C. Estrada, et al., reported on the effects of tirucallic acids against prostate cancer. Tirucallic acids are the active ingredients found in frankincense. Dr. Estrada found that tirucallic acids extracted from frankincense successfully killed cultured human prostate cancer cells that were experimentally grafted into mice, by inducing the expression of proteins that are important in apoptosis. Apoptosis is a cell process that produces cellular death and is a process most cancers have learned to avoid.

Frankincense: Could It Be a Cure for Cancer?

One of the wonders of myrrh is that it actually decongests the prostate gland. Researchers at Rutgers University in New Jersey identified the active ingredient in myrrh and shown that it kills cancer cells in laboratory conditions, but it has not yet been tested on animals or humans.

Dr. Mohamed Rafi, one of the co-researchers in the study and an assistant professor in the university's department of food science, said the active ingredient in myrrh shows particular promise for the prevention and treatment of breast and prostate cancer.

How much of the OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend oil do I use per quart of water in the second enema in the series?

In the second enema in the series, use 5-10 drops of OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend, mixed in 1 teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt.

BUY OHN COLON CLEANSE ESSENTIAL OIL BLEND

Why do you recommend using OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend in the second enema in the series?

OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend is excellent to use in your colon cleanse as it neutralizes toxins, feeds the healthy bacteria, and helps with bacterial, fungal, and viral infections. With that said, it is important to rotate oils so that the body doesn't develop a sensitivity to any oil or oil blend. If you take an enema once a week or less, it is fine to always use OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend. If you take enemas more than once a week, you can rotate OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend with other essential oils such as the OHN Coffee Enema Essential Oil Blend, the OHN Candida Blend, or the OHN Anti-Inflammatory and Flora Booster blend.

How long do I hold the first 2 enemas in the series?

You only need to hold the first two enemas as long as they take to fill the colon with the enema solution. You can hold the second enema longer, if you wish, and if your body is easily able to do this.

How do I know if I should embark on a colon cleanse program?

How do people know or recognize the signs that they need to embark on a colon cleanse program? Is it necessary to prepare for a colon cleanse?

Most of us are not aware of our toxicity levels because we become polluted over time, gradually forgetting what it feels like to be healthy and energetic. Recently I was talking to a client whose medical doctor had told him, "There is nothing wrong with you, but there is really nothing right."

A sure sign of a body in need of a program of detoxification, colon cleansing, and therapeutic nutrition is a chronic disorder such as a Candida overgrowth, high blood pressure, allergies, irritable bowel syndrome, fibroids, arthritis, fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. For many of us, frequent bouts of gas, bloating, or feeling generally run-down are signals from our body that we need to detoxify. Even in the absence of specific symptoms, aging itself reduces the body's ability to detoxify. And, unfortunately, our world is getting more toxic every day.

Each of us not only accumulates environmental toxins year after year, but we also accumulate metabolic wastes, or the wastes of running our bodies day after day. Cleansing is inherent to the proper functioning of our bodies, but given the way in which most of us take care of ourselves, a regular colon cleanse can be central to your good health. An excellent movie, Super Size Me, brings home the sad truth of how our bodies do suffer from our lifestyle choices.

It is necessary to prepare for a colon cleanse. Most people don't realize that a truly effective colon cleanse program is always started with a therapeutic nutritional program. Most of us lack the necessary nutrients needed by our body, especially our liver, to cleanse. Many of us take supplements or think we ought to because we are aware of our increased bodily needs for nutrients. However, most of us are not aware of the important fat-soluble nutrients that are needed for cleansing and the requisite rebuilding. These fat-soluble nutrients, such as vitamin A and D, and Activator X, bring needed nutrients into our cells for an effective total body detoxification and are the very substances that rebuild our colonic mucosa. Additionally, the liver needs ample high-quality protein in order to function optimally. For these reasons, a dietary program that includes healthy fat, plenty of protein, and individualized amounts of carbohydrates, as is laid out in my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health, is needed before you embark on a colon cleanse program.

What is the best enema bag?

I received my order of your new CD, Ten Days to Optimal Health, the seven-day cleansing kit, etc., and thought I was ready to go. Lo and behold, I cannot find an enema bag around here to save my life. Kristina, can you recommend an enema bag that you carry that will do the job? Also, as far as implants are concerned, should I purchase a bulb syringe or can I just use the bag? I was thinking that a 30-inch colon tube might be beneficial too, to give a deeper, high enema. Please give me your thoughts. I can't wait to get started on the program and I sure appreciate your help. I really liked your CD.

I think that an enema bag that can hold 2-5 quarts is ideal. The more water you can take, the more fully you will clean out your colon. We have a number of enema bags that hold this much water. In order to avoid cramping, add a Higginson type syringe to the tubing set-up as we have done with our Flowmasters. While you slowly fill your colon with water during your enema session, you squeeze the Higginson syringe to move the water deeper into the colon. By using a large amount of water and the Higginson syringe, you will be able to take the entire bag of water. You do this by taking the water into your body slowly and, when you feel any cramping, squeezing the syringe to move the water out of that area of the colon. If you wish, a colon tube can also be added to this set-up. Make sure you also add 1 tsp of Celtic Sea Salt per quart of water to your enema. The salt added to the water will help your body to receive more water and will replenish your electrolytes.

The same system will work with implants, but isn't always easy to clean up. Also, the oil will eat away at rubber. I think the best tool for implants is an enema bucket, a bulb syringe, or a 2500 cc bag, plus a silicone colon tube.

What enema equipment works best for someone who has trouble retaining solutions?

I have been assisting my husband with coffee enemas for about a month now. We were only doing it about once or twice per week, but now we've increased to about 3-4 times per week. One problem we are having is that he often has trouble retaining this enema. He has better luck on the first half (holding 2 cups) than the second go-around.

We purchased a very basic enema bag/hose from your website a few years ago and just got around to using it! My question to you is this: Do you have enema equipment which might work better for someone who has trouble retaining the solutions? In his condition, he has much muscle weakness, which apparently includes the sphincter muscles. What would you recommend?

Also, would you also recommend hydrotherapy? We are in the Chicago area and are considering the trip to Madison to your place. The enemas and herbal colon cleansing we are doing have vastly helped his constipation, but just wondering if the hydrotherapy would maximize benefits?

I would recommend trying a retention nozzle in order to assist your husband to retain his coffee enema. I think your best choices would be the Silicone Single Retention Nozzle or the Flexible-Inflatable Enema Nozzle. Both assist the user to easily hold an enema solution and will offer a more therapeutic coffee enema experience as it is easier to deliver the coffee enema deeper into the colon. (To learn more about coffee enemas, view our educational enema movie, How to Take a Coffee Enema.)

For those who need an even larger retention nozzle in order to retain an enema or prevent leaks, I recommend trying the Inflatable Double Bulb Retention Nozzle

Enemas can be as effective as colon hydrotherapy, as long as you fully cleanse the entire colon. To learn more, you might view our downloadable videos, Small-Volume Enema and Large-Volume Enema.

And of course it is always an excellent idea to try a colon hydrotherapy session in order to compare how a person feels/responds to the two different methods.

Is it okay to use the coffee enema if you have high blood pressure?

It is best to check with your doctor if you have high blood pressure and are considering taking enemas. You can also use a blood pressure cuff as you take enemas to monitor any changes in your blood pressure, as any solution can change blood pressure. Avoid Fleet enemas. Coffee enemas do raise some people's blood pressure, but not everyone's.

The essential oils lavender, clary sage, and frankincense can lower blood pressure by dilating arteries, reducing oxidative stress, and decreasing emotional stress. This is one of the reasons we use these oils in our made-for-enema goat milk soaps.

If you wish for more personal assistance, please consider a phone consultation.

If fiber doesn't help my constipation, what else can I do?

I had a spinal x-ray done and my MD said that I was full of stool. He said to incorporate more fiber into my diet. The following week I had another spinal x-ray done because my back hurt so badly. There was no change in my bowels; I was still completely constipated. What would work best for me?

To find answers to this question, please read my articles Home Constipation Relief and Fiber Is Not Always The Answer.

How can I fully clear out the lower colon prior to a prostate exam, to avoid embarassment?

First, I would recommend completing my 3-step enema series protocol.

If you clear out only the lower colon by taking one enema, more stool will generally move into the rectal area within one to two hours. I recommend 3 enemas in a row (my enema series protocol), followed by prostate massage (see below) and then a BPH or Prostatitis Essential Oil Blend suppository.

In the first enema, use soap such as our made-for-enema goat milk soap.

In the second enema, use 5-10 drops of OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend and 1 teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt.

In the third enema, a coffee enema, use one quart of water with 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of organic, made-for-enema coffee.

This protocol will clear out the colon for 3-5 hours to be able to have a feces-free prostate exam or prostate massage. This protocol will also clear out the colon for a sigmoidoscopy or colonoscopy.

It may also be beneficial to perform a prostate massage after the enema series.

How to do a prostate massage:

  1. When performing a prostate massage, it often helps to achieve a state of arousal first. Doing so moves the gland into a slightly upward and backward position as the penis becomes erect.
  2. Lubricate the anus.
  3. Insert an index finger slowly to the first knuckle and start masturbating.
  4. Pull the finger out and re-apply lubricant.
  5. As you continue to masturbate, insert your finger back into the anus, this time to the second knuckle.
  6. Repeat steps 4 and 5, reaching the third knuckle.
  7. Once the index finger is fully inserted, search for a rounded lump roughly 4 inches inside the rectum and up near the root of the penis. This is the prostate gland.
  8. Gently massage the prostate in a circular or back-and-forth motion using the pad of the finger. You can also apply gentle pressure for 7-10 seconds, again with the pad of the finger rather than the tip.
  9. Prostate massages could also be done with one of our Delrin nozzles instead of your finger.

Can a bowel return to normal after taking enemas for many years?

I have purchased several products from Optimal Health over the pass several years for good colon health. I was looking at your online discussion of February 15, 2006, and a question caught my eye. A gentleman by the name of Jeff asked if bowel functions ever return to normal after taking enemas for an extended prior of time. Jeff mentioned he was trying to reduce the number of enemas he was taking; however, after three or four days he was constipated again and had to use an enema to relieve himself. I have a similar problem like Jeff. I have been taking enemas to cleanse my colon since my late teens. Late last year I realized I had taken too many. At this point I was taking a daily enema. When I started to reduce the frequency I found I would have normal movement for three to fours days and then I was constipated and had to rely on an enema. My question is, do one's bowels ever return to normal after taking enemas for many years?

The answer is yes and no. The ability of the colon to function optimally depends on the individual's colon history. If, when you started using enemas to cleanse your colon, your bowels worked well on their own, it is likely that you can stop taking the enemas and your bowel functioning will not have diminished. However, if when you started taking enemas, your colon didn't empty on its own daily, then it is less likely that your bowel will empty daily when you stop taking enemas.

There are many factors that influence the colon's ability to function optimally, including diet, the overall functioning of the thyroid, one's history of emptying the colon day to day, exercise, and the body's toxicity level. In order to thoroughly explore all of these areas that influence your colon's functioning, I would need to work with you. If you wish to do this, you might start with a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA), which gives us a picture of thyroid function and toxicity level. During the consultation given as part of the HTMA, we can also look at your history of bowel regularity and irregularity, your diet, and exercise.

Can you send me some information about your "Seven-Day Cleanse"?

I am interested in the Seven-Day Cleansing Kit. Can you send me some more information about this kit? Also, what do you specifically do when you are on this program? (There is a week of fasting involved, right?) Both my wife and I would like to take part in this program. I assume one needs to buy an enema kit to cleanse the required once a day when on the program. Is that correct?

The Vit-Ra-Tox Cleansing Program, or what you refer to as the Seven-Day Cleansing Kit, is designed to support the body's natural healing abilities during a fast. The seven-day cleanse, along with colon cleansing, can move out 7-20 feet of mucoid plaque from the colon daily. The Vit-Ra-Tox Program is a system for whole body purification that combines fasting, a fibrous intestinal cleanser, nutritional supplements, and daily colon irrigation. It is a complete program for detoxification that will assist the body to rejuvenate every organ, gland, tissue, and cell. You will be pleased with the beneficial results of this Seven-Day Cleanse. The Vit-Ra-Tox Cleansing Program Kit contains:

  • Proper nutrition support provided by whole food supplements:
    • Greenlife Cereal Grass Supplement
    • Wheat Germ/Flax Seed Oil Capsules
    • Vitamin C from Acerola Berries
  • Proper elimination support provided by:
    • Detoxificant: Bentonite
    • Intestinal Cleanser: Psyllium

For the colon cleansing, you will need previously scheduled appointments with a colon hydrotherapist or your own enema bag. (I recommend at least a 2-quart bag, but find that a 5-quart enema bag gives the results that are most similar to a colon hydrotherapy session.)

I use the Vit-Ra-Tox Cleansing Program at the Optimal Health Center with effective results. A client will always remove the 7-20 feet of mucoid plaque daily, a combination of the product along with toxins that are being removed from the entire body. I do alter the program slightly from a rigid fast for seven days in order to teach people how to eat well once the fast is over. Eating well day to day before and after a fast tends to make a fast more effective and easier. I recommend a five-day cleanse, which allows one to use the Vit-Ra-Tox kit for two fasts instead of one, making the program easier to afford. I also add nutritious liquids to the fast (soup broth, raw milk, vegetable juice, fruit juice, water, and herbal tea). This entire program is laid out in my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health. In the book I go into detail about how to prepare for the fast, how to do the fast, how to cleanse the colon, and what to do after the fast. When people finish the program, they feel great!

A hair tissue mineral analysis (HTMA) will allow you to track your progress if you use it before and after the fasting.

Do I take a full enema series before I take a coffee enema? How much coffee do I use?

I'm a new customer and ordered a 4 Quart Easy Enema Kit Saturday, so I'll just ask a couple of quick questions.

I do know how important cleansing the colon is and how helpful coffee enemas are, but until I found your website it would appear I was doing many things wrong. Two years ago I stopped smoking and seven years ago I stopped drinking and the use of drugs and got my life on track. That said, I learned that due to all those years of not eating properly, that my colon was, at best, overloaded. I learned about coffee enemas but was instructed to take it first, hold for 20 minutes, and after a clear water flush. I stopped doing this because it was uncomfortable. After reading your "how to," I tried the slow approach to giving the enema. I have a 2-quart bag which in the past dumped in 2 to 3 minutes. Not fun, but I stuck with it because it would make me feel better when done. Before I ordered a 4-quart kit, I wanted to try your way. What took 3 minutes the old way took almost 20 minutes feeling comfortable and very relaxed. I did a full enema series and I can't remember sleeping so well.

With a 4-quart enema, do I just take it the same way -- slowly and as long as it takes? Do I take a full enema series before I take a coffee enema? Do I take a 4-quart coffee enema and how many? How much coffee do I use? Also, do I rinse with fresh water when done with the coffee enema?

A little about me: I'm 46 years old and healthy.

I am pleased to hear that taking the enema slowly, using my suggestions (How To Take An Enema), is working well for you.

As far as taking an enema series, a 3 or 5-quart enema bag works the best and these are used in the same way any sized enema bag would be used -- take the enema solution into your body slowly and taking as much time as it takes to fill the colon fully. Yes, do take the first two cleansing enemas in the Enema Series before you take the third -- the coffee enema.

Here are my coffee enema instructions:

  • Use 1 tablespoon to 1 cup of brewed coffee.
  • Mix with 1 quart filtered water and add solution to an enema bag.
  • Hold coffee enema for 12 to 15 minutes.
  • You do not need to rinse the colon after the coffee enema.

Do you have any info on the balance of flora and fauna that should exist in your intestines and colon?

It is my understanding that there is a specific balance of flora and fauna that exists in your intestines and colon. I am about to begin a regimen of green tea and coffee enemas and would like to make sure that if I alternate days (coffee one day, green tea the next), that a week or two of enemas will not harm the proper bacteria levels in my digestive system. Any info you could share on this would be appreciated.

Congratulations on your upcoming health regime. I recommend that one takes a probiotic formula during any colon cleanse. I recommend the probiotic Ortho Biotic. Ortho Biotic is a carefully assembled cast of probiotic organisms arrayed to meet our diverse population's needs, each strain has a slightly different profile to maximize the environment for strains already in the gut. The ability of the probiotics in Ortho Biotic to support the normal healthy flora balance in the gut is not based solely on colony-forming unit (CFU) count, but also on their ability to withstand difficult conditions in the digestive tract such as stomach acid and bile. Ortho Biotic also contains naturally occurring substances that function as prebiotics.

In addition to oral supplementation, a flora colon implant improves one's microorganism level during a colon cleanse regime that lasts for more than one week. Bifidonate is the microflora that is in greatest abundance within the colon itself.

Do you have any suggestions to help avoid getting urinary tract infections while doing enemas?

I recently found your site and am beyond words that I did! I have had asthma most of my life and have basically been on and off different meds for about 35 years. I have been working excruciatingly hard over the last few years to find a natural alternative to meds.

I began having some good success in December with colloidal silver but then, like most other things, it just stopped working for me after awhile. I began to try coffee enemas about a month ago but hadn't done a lot of research on them. The first couple times I did them I noticed my wheezing cleared up. I wasn't sure if it was coincidence or not, but then didn't continue them regularly. Last week I decided to try it again and felt the incredible relaxed feeling I'd get when done but also felt a little spacey. The same thing happened the next day and I began to wonder if I was absorbing back some of the toxins, so I did some more research and found your site.

I began to follow your protocol daily, and since starting your protocol about a week ago I have not had to use one bit of asthma medication! In fact, I would say my asthma feels 90% gone. I am finding it challenging to find the time to do the whole protocol and don't know how long I will need to do it daily, but I am thrilled to be off meds. I also ordered your book and am looking forward to reading it. I have already been following the Weston Price diet for several years and we own our own chickens for eggs and milking goats for raw milk, so I am looking forward to reading more on this subject.

I came down with a urinary tract infection a couple days ago that I think was due to E. coli from the enemas. I feel a bit awkward, still being new to it, and it has been a little messy. I am wondering if you have any suggestions to help avoid getting urinary tract infections while doing them?

I was also wondering if I were to order the hair analysis test, would I be able to understand how to read it and would it come with suggestions for any imbalances I may have?

I look forward to hearing from you. In all the years I have been looking for a natural cure for asthma, not one person has ever recommended enemas to me!

Thanks for contacting me. Glad you found us!

Well done on all this good work that you are doing; I am so pleased to hear that our protocol is working so well for you.

To control the amount of mess with an enema, use an enema retention nozzle. While you take the enema solution into your body, make sure the balloon on the retention nozzle is inflated. Once your colon is full, sit on the toilet, release the air from the nozzle, and the nozzle from your colon. Empty.

The cost of the Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis includes a consultation where we read the test with you and suggest a balancing protocol based on the results.

Please do keep in touch and let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Do you know of some arguments for an enema program over taking cathartic liquids?

I am a 60-year-old male in good health, scheduled to have my first colonoscopy soon. I am aware of the usual preparation, requiring the drinking of a lot of cathartic liquid. For a number of reasons, I would much prefer a series of enemas. Do you know of some arguments I can use to support my preference? Do you have any other comments or suggestions? Thanks very much.

Use common sense in your argument: your goal is to clean out the colon in order to have a successful colonoscopy. Well-performed enemas do this effectively and were the tool of choice before chemical laxatives were widely used.

In order to fully clear the colon, you will need to do 3-6 enema series during the 2-4 days prior to the procedure.

An enema series, using Frankincense and Myrrh Goat Milk Soap, OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend, Celtic Sea Salt, and coffee, will do the job of cleaning out the colon fully. You will need to do 3 enemas during each series, and you will need to take 2-4 quarts during each enema. For this purpose, I think that the Flowmaster is the best enema equipment available. With water slowly filling the entire colon, the Flowmaster allows a person to take at least 2 quarts of water without cramping.

Doctors don't help my chronic pain, bloating, weight gain, fatigue, and sleep issues. What can I do?

I hope you can shed some light on my symptoms. I am an active 32-year-old male. I work in the landscape management industry. I have a pesticide/chemical application license I have put to use, but not recently. For the last 7 years I have been suffering from the following: chronic pain, extreme muscle tenderness, bloating, weight gain, fatigue, and sleep issues. Also, I am always cold, and recently I was diagnosed with asthma. No symptoms go away. They just continue to compound. What can you tell me? I have heard of drinks like the "Hollywood diet" that is supposed to clean out your system. Do you think that would be good? I am not sure where to start. I have been to doctor after doctor. They have run tests, I've had a muscle biopsy taken, and I've been put on medications (Tylenol with codeine, Neurontin, and Zyrtec, none of which I am taking now, by my choice). Please let me know your thoughts!

The human body is designed and genetically programmed to be healthy. Your body has approximately 100 trillion cells and they each know exactly what to do. For many reasons, including exposure to toxins, your cells are tired and overworked. In order for you to be healthy, you must optimize the energy that is being produced by those cells so that they can allow your tissues, organs, glands, and systems to rebuild your health to an optimal state. Where does your body obtain the energy it needs to sustain life in a state of optimal health and well-being? The life-sustaining processes of the body are known as metabolism, and are fueled by an energy exchange with the environment, whereby the body converts air, water, sunlight, and food into energy.

When you are sick, you must optimize this exchange of nutrients and the subsequent wastes. There is no other way to be healthy. You may opt for drugs that suppress the symptoms, but this will not bring you health. You must breathe clean air deeply, drink clean water in large quantities, enjoy the sunshine on your skin, eat therapeutically, and cleanse.

In order to teach people how to optimize their nutrient intake and waste removal, I have written a book, Ten Days to Optimal Health. In this book, I have laid out an easy-to-use, 35-day lifestyle and cleansing program that brings health renewal. I am also available for consultations . These ecological lifestyle programs are based on individualized nutritional needs and biochemical individuality. YOU can heal fully.

Even after a laxative flush and two enemas, there were still stool deposits in my colon. What do you recommend?

Recently I went through a colonoscopy. I was told that the doctor could not see very well because there were still stool deposits in my colon even after the laxative flush and the two enemas. Could this be plaque instead of stool? Should I start a colon cleansing program so that when the doctor performs this test again he will be able to see better? Is it safe for someone my age (52)? If so, what kind of cleanser do you recommend?

The chemical laxative flush that is used for colonoscopy preparation is very hard on the body, not to mention it makes people miserable. There are other options to effectively cleanse your colon which do clear out the entire colon. Taking an enema series each day for a week is one of those options. Make sure to use Celtic Sea Salt and OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend along with the goat milk enema soap to get the best cleanse. Also, it is important to do an enema series the morning of the procedure.

In the second enema, use 5-10 drops of OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend and 1 teaspoon of Celtic Sea Salt.

It may have been mucoid plaque that remained in your colon. I recommend that people go through a dietary regime before they fast to remove mucoid plaque. I have seen too many people become sick by fasting without the dietary changes, due to a highly toxic body. When you fast, the liver can't always keep up with the amount of toxins that need to be removed. Build a strong body with a detox diet before you cleanse. My book, Ten Days to Optimal Health, is a 35-day program that ends in a 5-day fast. This is an effective program to bring about renewed health and fully cleanse the colon without the harsh chemicals.

How do I find local health consultant who works with the same philosophies that you do?

I happened across your website and find it very inspiring and hopeful. I am a 36-year-old woman who is vegetarian. I have been suffering greatly from allergies, constant colds, mood swings, depression, complete lack of energy, and anxiety. I also have a constant craving for sugar and/or alcohol. I have tried many alternative therapies, such as Reiki, acupuncture, NAET, etc., but to no avail. I live in NYC and am wondering if you could recommend someone who I might see here, who has the same philosophies that you do. My husband and I are hoping to get pregnant soon, and I know I must get healthy first. Thanks for your help, and keep up the good work!

We work with clients all over the world via the phone, WhatsApp, email, etc., as well. We would be honored to have a chance to work with you. To learn more about the work we do, please visit our Services page.

Additionally, I am confident you would have favorable results by working through the 35-day program laid out in my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health.

How does fasting compare to a colonic and good diet program?

I looked around on your website and I read your information with much anticipation. I am a 36-year-old registered nurse. Unfortunately I have not taken care of myself for many years. Way too much fast food and pop have taken a toll on my health. I have always just eaten whatever I want with the mindset that next week I will start fresh with exercise and healthy eating, but that day never comes. I am overweight by 130 pounds. I should weigh about 130 but I weigh 260.

A few years ago I started breaking out with the occasional boil. The doctor checked me out and determined that I did not have any diabetes problems... yet. My mother has type II. I knew that I needed to do something different, but was not sure what. I went from the occasional over time to having breakouts under my arms of 12-15 pimples, with about three of them becoming full-blown boils. Very painful! Last week my whole abdomen broke out with around 20 pimples and a few boils along with two boils on my arm, one on my breast, and one behind my leg. I decided that was enough. I felt like I was supposed to fast and pray. I fasted for 65 hours. I was upset with myself for quitting before the 72-hour mark, but I felt so sick that I ended up eating. That night I had diarrhea for 6 hours. It was the burning kind, and then I was disgusted for eating.

I am reading a book on fasting and it says that if you are extremely toxic you need to do a fast or juice fast one day for every year you are old. I am 36. It says you can do it in increments of 7-10 days once a month until you reach your 36 days and then afterwards just the occasional day for health. I also heard that I should do colonics because my liver would be detoxifying. This is all new to me. I am a labor and delivery nurse and a recovery nurse for surgery patients, so I am not that knowledgeable on other things outside my scope of practice. I would just really appreciate any information you could give me on what you think I should do. I feel such despair. My mom raised me on meat and potatoes and I just don't like vegetables. They taste so nasty to me. I do want to like them. I really really do want to. I just don't know what to do. I would love to hear your mind on this matter at your earliest convenience.

I think that the fasting program you describe would be EXTREMELY hard on your body. I would not recommend it!

In order to rebuild your body, you will need the raw materials. This includes foods such as coconut oil, healthy proteins found in grass-fed meats and raw dairy, and appropriate amounts of fruits. Without these, you will continue to overload an already overloaded and run-down body. We can set up a program over the phone, or I have a 35-day program that would get you started in my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health. Once you do the 35 days, you will feel much better about yourself and the next steps will be much easier!

How should a bathtub be properly used when taking an enema?

As a frequent and satisfied purchaser of your quality products, I hope I may ask a question. In How To Take An Enema, in the first paragraph, "Enema Location," you give some suggestions, including taking an enema series "right in a hot bathtub," but provide no further details.

I know that my mom, an RN, a firm believer in the benefits of enemas, and a frequent taker herself, preferred to take them in a bathtub. She also gave us children regular enemas and they always made us feel better. Incidentally, mom is proof of the healthful and restorative power of this wondrous therapy, as she lived, virtually without illness, all her life, with perfect complexion, until she passed away with nary a wrinkle on her face at the age of 90. Enemas were an unfailing source of wellness, peace, and comfort to her, especially in her later years.

I would appreciate more information on how to use the bathtub method. I assume that the first enema is taken as a general cleanse that one should retain (if at all) for only a brief period and then one should leave the bathtub and release into the toilet, which should clear the colon of most waste. Then a second enema is taken and the resultant effluent (then consisting largely of water), may be sanitarily released directly into the tub water and drained away normally. And a third, if taken, may be treated the same way. Do I have this right, or is there more I should know? I would really appreciate some reliable information on this technique.

Thanks for contacting me and for sharing your family history of enema use. I have heard many stories where enemas have been used throughout one's lifetime to great benefit.

For all enemas in a series, the enema solution is to be administered in the bathtub, followed by any massage or retention of the enema solution in the bathtub. The release of the enema solution is always done on the toilet, never in the bathtub.

Please let me know if I can be of further assistance.

I have had elimination problems and blood in my stool for close to a year now. What should I do?

I'm a 43-year-old mother of four teenagers. As a result of having four children, I have hemorrhoids. I've never had a real problem with them other than the fact that I have them at all. In the last year I've started getting blood in my stools. Also I had to take an antibiotic for the first time in forever (Z-pac for 6 days) starting on July 29th, and since then I can't seem to form a solid stool. Every time I eat I'm in the bathroom within 15-20 minutes. At first I thought my hemorrhoids were bleeding a little and didn't pay much attention to it for close to a year, but now with the elimination problem I'm not so sure. I'm hoping the loose stools are still a result of the antibiotic even though I eat a lot of Stoneyfield yogurt and take Echinacea. I'm worried it could be related to my colon. The idea of going to my primary care physician (a female) for this who will most likely refer me to an internal person (probably male) who will then order some horrible test like a colonoscopy makes me very uncomfortable.

Should I be alarmed? Is there some other way to deal with this other than a colonoscopy? I would very much appreciate any advice you may have.

Of course, the first thing that I need to say is go to your medical doctor.

With that said, there are many things that you can do to improve your health. Unfortunately, or fortunately, over time our bodies become more sensitive to our lack of care for them. Over time our bodies demand more high-quality foods and react more to stress. Most often, by understanding and following the principles of what it means to care for your individual body, you can turn your health around to where you want it to be. This is why I have spent the last eight years writing my workbook of sorts, Ten Days to Optimal Health. It is a tool for people to work with, whereby they can learn from experience about what their bodies need to function well, how to move their bowels easily with a well-formed stool one to two times daily, and how to be energetic, not beset with food cravings, and in an even and pleased mood. I believe that if you follow the 35-day nutritional and colon cleansing program as it is laid out in the book, you will feel dramatically different in your body.

I would also recommend a salve to assist the anus to rid itself of the hemorrhoids. Super Salve works well for this purpose.

In your experience, would you say colon therapy can be "addictive" or habit-forming?

Your website is really informative. I have long benefited from enemas and have found a colon hydrotherapist locally, and I'm going to make an appointment. I read a Q&A with Dr. Andrew Weil in which he disputed the usefulness of enemas and warned they can be addictive. I know people may become overly reliant on them for quick weight loss, or for pleasurable stimulation maybe, and that there are some notable cases of enema dependence. Marilyn Monroe, for instance, supposedly received barbiturates through her enemas. In your experience, would you say colon therapy can be "addictive" or habit-forming?

I do not agree that colon cleansing is inherently addictive. There are many people who are using the tool for emotional reasons that aren't healthy, but even daily use of colon cleansing, when addressing a real physiological need, is not inherently addictive.

Every day people ask me what they can do for their health. Most come to me once they have symptoms of ill health. Some have irritable bowel syndrome or sinus problems; others have constipation or a lot of gas and bloating; others are fatigued or struggling with fibromyalgia or an anal fissure. Our society has been trained to think of our health only when our bodies show signs of disease. I propose that we change our thinking: Instead of putting all of our resources into fighting disease, let us put our resources into building health. In this way, instead of taking an aspirin for a headache, or taking a drug for irritable bowel, or taking a laxative for constipation, let us reach for our body's ongoing process of renewal and regeneration to heal and to stay healthy. Doesn't this make more sense than suppressing the symptoms that the body uses to communicate so clearly that it is in a state of cellular imbalance?

Is it unusual for my first bowel movement urge in the morning to turn out to be just gas?

I really appreciate your website. It has been a miracle. I have suffered for years with IBS, and thanks to some of your material, along with the enemas, I feel so much better. I have a question. I take regular enemas (2-3 times a week), but within 10-15 minutes after getting up in the morning, I have been feeling like I need to move my bowels, which is a good thing.

I heed the call and proceed to go sit and relax and allow nature do the rest, but almost invariably when I sit, I find that the urge simply was gas. I would sit and pass the gas and after 10-15 minutes on the the toilet the urge would leave. Usually the urge returns within the next half hour and then I am able to have a good bowel movement. Is this unusual or just normal? I look forward to your response...

Thanks for contacting me. I am so pleased to hear that my work has helped you.

What you experience in the morning is not unusual. The body often uses movement to release the morning bowel; as the morning bowel comes further into the rectum, gas is naturally pushed out. I do also hear that you might need some further physiological support to optimize your health. I recommend you work on your liver and gallbladder health and allow your sympathetic nervous system to further rest and rebuild using a product we offer called GB-3. It contains pancreatin, dehydrocholic acid, ox bile, and Russian black radish. Using the product will shift your current pattern to where your bowels would move the first time you sit on the toilet. You would take one to three tablets daily.

Lately every time I take an enema I am exhausted. What can I do?

I've been doing cleansing enemas, followed by a coffee enema about once a week for the past five or six months. When I first started doing them, I felt really great afterwards, but lately, every time I take an enema I am exhausted -- really, really exhausted -- for at least two days. I just have no energy at all. It's gotten to the point where I don't think I'll be continuing with these, because the fatigue is so bad. Has anyone else experienced this? Any thoughts on what could be causing this?

It is not likely a positive sign to be consistently exhausted after your colon-cleansing enema series. I would not continue with your current program.

In order to proceed with your health goals, I think you would benefit from a Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis (HTMA). This information would assess if your electrolytes or minerals have become imbalanced using your current colon-cleansing program. Additionally, if it is the removal of toxins that is causing your exhaustion, the HTMA would show this.

What are the benefits of colon hydrotherapy over taking oral magnesium?

I am looking into using a colon-cleansing product that contains about 3,500 milligrams of magnesium per daily dose, along with a small amount of organic germanium-132. Will this product fully cleanse my colon, or do I need to also take colon hydrotherapy sessions in order to cleanse my colon? I've heard that I should take 15 colonics in 30 days. I can't afford this. I am hoping that this supplement will do the trick.

The body has a bowel tolerance for magnesium as it does for vitamin C. In other words, if you take enough magnesium, you will empty out the bowels. This is why Milk of Magnesium is used for these purposes. However, taking this much magnesium to cleanse your colon will disrupt your levels of other minerals such as calcium, selenium, and zinc. The daily dosage of magnesium that I recommend to assist the body to empty the colon is 500-1,200 mg per day, never 3,500 mg per day. If one did take that amount of magnesium to cleanse the colon, I would highly recommend doing a seasonal Hair Tissue Mineral Analysis.

Organic Germanium-132 has been shown to be useful in alternative cancer programs but is not a bowel stimulant.

Colon cleansing should never be conceived of as a cleansing therapy separate from the rest of the body. For a colon cleanse that will clean not only the walls of the colon, but your entire body as well, you will need to prepare your body and use a set of products that contains psyllium, bentonite, and other therapeutic cleansing nutrients such as cereal grasses, healthy fat, and vitamin C. We offer this sort of colon-cleansing line with our Vit-Ra-Tox kit.

I want to emphasize proper preparation. All of our bodies are toxic due to the world we live in. For this reason, colon cleansing as often as 15 times in 30 days is an excellent idea, but this sort of colon cleansing does need to be done therapeutically and not haphazardly. Why? In order for one to truly cleanse the colon and the entire body, you must provide your body with the raw materials it needs to promote optimal liver function, to rebuild the lining of the colon, to pull toxins out of the cells, and to provide your hormones and glands with essential nutrients. Most of our bodies are starved for these therapeutic nutrients that are found in high-quality foods such as raw dairy, grass-fed meats that are properly prepared, organic raw fruit and vegetable juices, organic coconut oil, and apple cider vinegar. The entirety of these nutrients cannot be found in any pill. Additionally, you will want to repeat this process again within six to twelve months.

What colonic program works for people after chemo?

Greetings. My wife just started chemo for stomach cancer. She's only 37. Last week I took her for a colonic for the first time, and she could not believe how much came out. My question is: would she benefit from getting more colonics? Or would we be making her weaker? She's being given cistaplin and camptosar through a porta-catheter. I am not happy with her decision to do chemotherapy, as there is only a 50% shot that it will work. Her faith in God and her will to live will carry her through, but I want to strengthen her immune system as much as possible. I'm having her take a shot of wheatgrass in the morning. I've also just bought her extra virgin coconut oil and some apricot seeds. I've read about vitamin B17 -- she has to eat about 50 a day. Any suggestions ? Please help us.

I know your wife can heal!

As far as how many colonics would be beneficial, many cancer patients take daily enemas with coffee as an implant to assist the body to clear away the cancer toxins. To learn more, you might read through articles about the coffee enema cancer treatment research of Dr. Nicolas Gonzalez, including InTouch: The Good Health Guide to Cancer Prevention and Treatment.

As far as how many coffee enemas your wife can benefit from, I would need to learn more about her individual body. You can make a phone appointment with my staff by calling 608-242-0200.

If she or you wish to learn more about my general recommendations, you can read through my book, Ten Days to Optimal Health.

Why filter your enema water?

Today I spoke with a man on the phone about therapeutic enemas. He understood the tremendous value of increasing the mineral content of the water by adding one to three teaspoons of Celtic Sea Salt. He also understood the value of adding OHN Colon Cleanse Essential Oil Blend to the water to increase the amount of release he was having from his colon. However, he just couldn't see going to the trouble of filtering his water.

Water is so important because it is your main tool for cleaning your colon. A good enema program consists of being able to infuse enough filtered water into your colon to stimulate peristalsis throughout the entire colon, thus cleansing the entire colon and not just the rectal or sigmoid areas. Once enough water is in the colon, you then expel it, and the resulting waste, into the toilet. You then repeat the process one or two more times. This process of taking two to three enemas in a row is called an enema series. For some, the colon cleanse is at the heart of healing from health problems such as prostatitis, anal fissures, irritable bowel syndrome, diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.

If the water you use contains chlorine or other toxic elements, you may make yourself very sick.

City water is generally chlorinated water. Chlorine kills good microbes and damages the lining of the colon. A strong population of healthy microbes in your colon is essential for you to stay healthy and to live long. To create a strong microbial community in your colon, use Ortho Biotic.

In addition, many water supplies at different times contain unhealthy microbes, parasites or other impurities. When you drink water, impurities and parasites from the water are effectively neutralized by your mouth, your saliva, and your stomach acids. This is not the case with putting water into the colon. If you use impure water when taking an enema, you are putting your health at risk. "Most municipal water supplies in the United States are home to protozoa like Giardia and Cryptosporidium, and one in five Americans drinks water that violates federal health standards. Every year almost a million North Americans become sick from waterborne diseases, and about 1% die." (Leo Galland, M.D., Power Healing , New York, Random House, 1997.)

Thirdly, many people think that distilled water is the best water to use for colon cleansing. This is absolutely NOT the case.

How do you use a colon board?

Colon boards hold 4 to 5 gallons of water and are used to cleanse the colon over a toilet.

Instructions:

  • First, fill the bucket with room-temperature, reverse-osmosis water. The bucket must be positioned one to two feet above your body.
  • Next, add to your water, 1/4 cup of lemon juice, one tablespoon of Epsom salts, one cup of garlic water, blended and strained garlic cloves, one to two cups of coffee, or one cup of bentonite clay. (All of these products will have different results, so know what you are doing!)
  • You will have to initiate suction in the hose before the water will flow down. To do this, fill the plastic hose up with water and let some of it out. This will create suction. Clamp the tube and put one end in the bucket.
  • Next, position one end of the colon board (also known as a colema board) over the toilet bowel and the other end on a chair. You may want to put an old kitchen colander (strainer) in the toilet to catch any hardened mucus or fecal matter. Some people are astounded by what comes out. Seeing is believing.
  • Finally, lubricate the plastic tubing which goes into the rectum. Towels on the board help for comfort. Lie down and insert the tube into the rectum. Do not try to hold too much water in the beginning. If you feel any pressure, then simply "let go" and the water will come pouring out into the toilet. The more you get used to taking home colonics, the more you will know exactly how much you can hold.

Some people feel much more at ease having a trained professional assisting them to clean their colon. Other people can get their brains around an enema but feel too shy to let a stranger do this to them. Either way, I believe that colon cleansing is a very important tool in health maintenance and I recommend that you start whatever you are comfortable with as soon as possible. I think that you will be pleased!

Why buy a reverse osmosis water filter?

Developing an excellent daily water intake is perhaps the most important aspect of your optimal health regime. In an optimal state of hydration, our bodies are over 75% water. Obviously, water is extremely important to our bodies.

Consider these points:

  • Water is the primary medium through which every cell of our body receives the energy, oxygen, and other nutrients it needs to carry out every bodily function. Without ample amounts of energy, oxygen, and other nutrients, our cells become congested with toxic substances and the stage is set for cellular deterioration (rapid aging) or disease.
  • Clean water is essential to our bodies cleansing system. As waste products and toxins accumulate within our cells, ample amounts of clean water serve to pull these harmful agents out of the cells so that they may be eliminated in our feces and urine.
  • Regular tap water does not support optimal nourishment and cleansing of your cells. Whether you get you water form a community water system or your own domestic well, both frequently contain a wide array of contaminants which may include pesticides, nitrates and nitrites, chlorine, excessive mineral deposits, disease-causing bacteria, and other groundwater contaminants.
  • Scientific studies have linked pesticides with increased cancer rates and chronic illness. It is also suspected that exposure to pesticides causes decreased immune system functioning, reproductive problems, birth defects, and Parkinson's disease.
  • Nitrates and nitrites in drinking water have been linked to a syndrome called "blue baby" in which shortness of breath, increased susceptibility to illness, heart attacks, or even death can occur in very young children.
  • No home filtration system is as effective at removing hazardous contaminants from your water as a reverse osmosis system. The filters that we recommend filter out particles down to 1/10,000 of a micron. (That's 10,000 times smaller than a Cryptosporidium microorganism!)

Why take supplements?

[Excerpt from "Allergies: The Natural Approach," The Standard, Vol. 1, No. 2., Edited by Thomas G. Guilliams, Ph.D.]

Finally someone is saying what many of us have known for sometime: that most people are unlikely to get enough vitamins from food and should take either supplements or eat specially fortified foods. This statement was just released by the U.S. Institute of Medicine on April 7, 1998. According to Dr. Robert Russell at the Tufts University, "This is the first time a recommendation has been made for intake other than from natural foods for a significant portion of the population." The first by them, but certainly not the first.

Supplementation is simply the adding of components not found in the available material, in this case, diet. The majority of the world's plants are not native to Central Wisconsin where I live. My wife and I choose to supplement our diet with Florida oranges, Georgia peaches, California grapes, and a host of ingredients from around the world to gain the vitamins, minerals, and phytonutrients we want to complete our diet. Unfortunately, many of the most biologically active phytonutrients are very unstable in the original plant material (must be eaten fresh), are too bulky to be transported efficiently (need to be concentrated), or are found in a part of the plant that most people would choose not to ingest (root, skin, bark, etc.). Supplementation is taking these ingredients to a population that cannot legitimately add them to their normal diet.

This is certainly not an endorsement for taking supplements instead of fresh fruits and vegetables, but with them. The best advice (I don't recall from whom) I have heard concerning the diet is "Eat things that would spoil, but eat them before they do!" Our modern culture has spent billions of dollars extracting the active components out of foods to increase shelf life, improve texture, and improve shelf appeal. This, and the fact that much of the soil has been depleted of vital trace minerals in the past 100 years, has led to the need for supplementation of vitamins and minerals, as well as various phytonutrients. From the looks of it, what we have known for decades has become a novel finding by our federal government.
